Materials & Chemicals
Rock Salt is only used.
We have learned that sand is an effective de-icing material. It also leads to an unsightly clean up in the spring, as well as
tracking dirt into your facility. Site safety is our priority, not saving money on de-icing materials.
Liquid Calcium Chloride is offered as a de-icing alternative. While rock salt is effective down to a range of 19 degrees,
Liquid Calcium Chloride will effectively melt ice at temperatures below -20 degrees. This makes this material a powerful
agent when combating ice.
Calcium Chloride
Calcium chloride, CaCl2, is a salt of calcium andchlorine. It behaves as a typical ionic halide, and is solid at room temperature. Common applications include brine for refrigeration plants, ice and dust control on roads, and desiccation. Because of its hygroscopic nature, anhydrous calcium chloride must be kept in tightly-sealed air-tight containers.

Rock Salt (Halite)
Halite (pronounced /ˈhælaɪt/), commonly known as rock salt, is the mineral form of sodium chloride (NaCl). Halite forms isometric crystals. The mineral is typically colorless or white, but may also be light blue, dark blue, purple, pink, red, orange, yellow or gray depending on the amount and type of impurities. |
